SUMMARY:Good Scientific Practice & Research Integrity
DESCRIPTION:This online training enables you to acquire in-depth knowledge of key topics and concepts of research integrity. It supports you in developing specific competences required to conduct your research according to the principles of good scientific practice.The content of the training is based on the principles and practices of the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity (ECoC) and the guidelines of the German Research Foundation (DFG). These serve as authoritative reference points for the promotion of good scientific practice.The seminar pursues a virtue-based approach with the aim of strengthening intrinsic motivations for responsible scientific behaviour and imparting the expertise to promote this attitude in others. At the same time, case studies from scientific practice will be discussed in order to reflect on practical experiences.The relevant legal, scientific ethical and procedural aspects are critically analysed and evaluated. On completion of the course, you will have developed interdisciplinary guidelines for good scientific practice and strategies for avoiding plagiarism and scientific misconduct. The course also focuses on effective collaboration in research teams and the secure storage and management of primary data.The online materials provided enable in-depth study of the topics covered and help you to reflect on your own goals and motives as a researcher. The training includes interactive, reflective and solution-oriented group activities that promote the exchange and application of what you have learnt.This seminar is aimed at doctoral candidates from all disciplines and in all phases of their doctorate who want to organise their research in a practical and integrity-conscious manner.\nLearning results:\n\nMain issues and concepts of research integrity and development of specific competences necessary to conduct research following principles of good research practice and research integrity\nThe principles and practices outlined in the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity (ECoC) and the German Research Foundation (DFG) as the main reference point for supporting good research practices\nAnalysis of case studies from scientific practice\nAnalysis of the relevant legal, scientific-ethical and procedural aspects\nDerivation of interdisciplinary guidelines for good scientific practice and for counteracting plagiarism and scientific misconduct\nThe safeguarding and storage of primary data\nDevelopment of predisposition to cultivate virtues and knowledge of how to act upon those virtues in concrete situations and complex moral dilemmas\nCommonly applicable principles of scientific goodness criteria, which can be specified for individual disciplines as needed, at various stages of the preparation of research papers\n
