The Presentation Skills Challenges.

If you are a non-native speaker of English, you may find it more challenging to give a presentation in English than in your native language. Still, even imperfect English is more likely to engage the audience if presented lively than reciting a more polished, less spontaneous written text. Delivering effective oral presentations involves three components: what you say (verbal), how you say it with your voice (vocal), and everything the audience can see about you (visual). For all three components, maximize the signal-to-noise ratio: Amplify what helps, filter out what hurts.
The training Powerful Presentation is designed to provide you with the essentials of presentations. It includes establishing key principles concerning preparation, the audience, presentation structure and handling of the discussion and question round. There is also attention for other elements that play a role in effective communication, from body language to visual aids. The training identifies and builds on your existing skills and develops your self-confidence. A rough guide (handout) to making an effective presentation accompanies the training.
The material for the training will be based on participant contribution in the form of video work, discussion and feedback. It is therefore suggested, that the participants bring their own presentation material (Laptop presentation).

Learning results:

  • Have your tools ready: ever received a present?
  • The does and don’ts for non-native speakers
  • You are the No. 1 visual
  • Getting ready and delivering the presentation
  • WIIFM: the key question to answer
  • Structure always wins
  • Visual support helps deliver the message
  • Not to get overpowered py PowerPoint!
  • PowerPoint, flip charts, hand-outs to underline your key points
  • Effective presenters welcome questions
  • Handling stage fright and mishaps

Requirement: Please bring a short PowerPoint presentation, preferably one that you have already prepared. Through systematic feedback from the group and the trainer, you can recognize your own potential, try out new ways of acting and thus improve your personal presentation skills.
